What Would Blackbeard Say

about Habits?

Good habits create easy life.
Good habits create easy life.

Ahoy, me hearties! Blackbeard here, ready to share me thoughts on the world today.

Now Blackbeard ain’t being critical of any man or maiden, live as ye please. That be the way I lived meself. But I did learn a thing or two about habits as I sailed the world.

Habits will either ruin yer life, or make ye very successful. But most people just float through life allowing the wind and the waves to take 'em wherever they will. If ye want to get ahead in life, ye must deliberately decide to create habits that will change the results that ye be gettin'.

Allow me the pleasure of sharin’ with you some daily habits that may help ye to have a more successful life. Pardon my colorful language and me aggressive attitude, but I do be a pirate after all.

Ahoy there, ye scallywags and landlubbers! Listen well, for Blackbeard himself be givin' ye advice in the hopes that it help ye to have a better life.

Rise with the sun, ye lazy dogs. Aye, start yer day early, like a proper pirate catchin' the wind at dawn. No time for sluggin' in bed – the treasure won't find itself! A person with a purpose in life be a much happier person than a person with no direction, driftin’ with the wind. Just as the sun climbs the sky to light our path, so too should ye rise early to greet the day. On a ship, this be akin to the break of dawn when we set our sails and prepare for the day's journey.

Sharpen yer cutlass and mind alike. Keep both yer blade and wit sharp. Read, learn, and stay ahead of the game. A dull mind be more dangerous than a rusty blade. If ye already knew how to be more successful, then don’t it make sense that ye already would be? So get yer pirate boots on, grab a book, or watch an educational video, and get after it! Ye can learn anything in the world from the internet. If ye batten down the hatches and get yer sea legs, ye can learn to do anything ye choose. Broaden yer horizons by learnin' somethin' new each day. On a ship, we're always learnin' new skills to navigate the ever-changin' seas.

Work Ethic: Take to yer tasks with gusto and determination. Whether it be swabbin' the decks or tacklin' paperwork, give it yer all. On a ship, every hand must work together to keep her afloat and sailin' true. So, keep yer quarters tidy and organized, a clean ship be a happy ship. A cluttered ship be prone to mishaps, and a cluttered mind be no different. Don't let the barnacles of laziness cling to yer soul. Barnacles don't attach to ships sailing on the sea, they only attach to ships anchored in port. A sailor that's dirty on the outside, is dirty on the inside, I always say. And trust me, pirates know a thing or two about livin’ dirty.

Chart yer course, set a course for success. Plan yer voyages wisely. Have goals, and a map for success. A ship without a destination ends up shipwrecked on the shores of nowhere. If ye don’t know where ye be headed, how will ye know when ye get there? Plot yer course for the day ahead. Know where ye be headed and what tasks lie ahead. On a ship, this be like chartin' our course on the map, settin' our heading for the next port of call.

Exercise regularly and hoist the sails. Keep yer body shipshape with regular exercise. A strong body be crucial for weatherin' the storms of life, just as it be on the high seas. Stay strong, me hearties. Physical strength be as important as mental. Lift weights to build muscle, and hoist the sails to catch the winds of opportunity. Ye don’t want to end up at the bottom of the briney deep for lack of physical strength.

Count yer doubloons, save for a rainy day. Don't be spendin' like a sailor on shore leave, three sheets to the wind. Count yer doubloons, save for a storm, and don't end up beggin' for pieces of eight from those who had more foresight than ye. There be beautiful sailin’, and there be gnarly storms in life, prepare for both.

Eat healthy rations, fuel yer body with nourishing grub. Just as a ship needs provisions to sail, ye need good food to fuel yer journey through life. Eat healthy, mix hardtack with fresh fish. A good diet be the key to a long life and a fit body. A good pirate would never set sail in a leaky ship with loose riggin’.

Stay hydrated by drinkin' plenty of water to keep yer sails full. Dehydration can lead to fatigue and cloudy judgment, which be dangerous both at sea and ashore.

Learn the art of negotiation and intimidation. Be savvy with words, know when to parley and when to unleash the cannons. Negotiation and intimidation be tools in every pirate's arsenal. There be loss on both sides of any battle, so even if ye win, ye may’ve lost more than ye gained.

Crew matters, so choose wisely. Pick yer shipmates with care. A loyal crew be the backbone of any successful voyage. Trustworthy mates be more valuable than a chest of gold. Be careful of who ye choose to sail with, ye be likely to become more like em as time goes on. Is yer current crew really the type people ye want to emulate?

Get plenty of rest and relaxation. Give yerself time to rest and recharge. Just as a ship needs time in port for repairs and replenishment, so too do ye need downtime to stay at yer best.

Find camaraderie in like minded folk. Forge bonds with yer shipmates and those ye meet along yer journey. Life be sweeter when shared with good company, whether it be on the open sea or on dry land. Sing Shanties and revel in victories. Celebrate victories, big or small. Sing songs, dance a jig, and revel in the joy of life. You'll all be joinin' me in Davy Jones' Locker soon enough. A happy pirate be a successful pirate.

Follow these daily habits, me hearties, and ye'll find yerself sailin' toward a better life, with the wind at yer back and the stars to guide ye home.

Now go forth, ye scurvy dogs, and make Blackbeard proud. Arrrr!

See ye on the next voyage!
