What Would Blackbeard Say

about

Urgent vs Important?

Ahoy there, me hearties! Gather 'round, for Blackbeard's got a tale to tell about discerning betwixt the urgent and the important aboard this here ship, and in life itself. We all have the same amount of time. What be the difference is how we use it!

Now, listen close, for life on the high seas ain't all swashbuckling and treasure hunts. Nay, there's much to be learned about what truly matters in the grand scheme of things. There are daily chores that have to be done in life to keep afloat, but those things are not important to yer future. Things that are vitally important to yer future never seem to pop up in yer life as bein' urgent.

Picture this: a storm's brewin' on the horizon, waves crashin' against the hull like angry sea monsters. Urgency be high, me hearties, as we must reef the sails and batten down the hatches to weather the tempest. This, me buckos, is urgent—nary a moment to spare, or we'll find ourselves at the mercy of Davy Jones.

But mark me words, urgent matters ain't always the ones what steer our course. The important matters lie deeper, like buried treasure waiting to be unearthed. Aye, the important matters be the ones what shape our destiny, what chart the course for a brighter future. Folks often complain about all of the circumstances that are hinderin' em from buildin' a side hustle, or part-time business. They just can’t seem to find time to work at the business or what could change their future.

Think on it, ye scallywags. When we be tendin' to the ship's stores, makin' sure we've enough provisions for the long voyage ahead—that be important. When we be trainin' the crew in the ways of navigation and seamanship—that be important too. These tasks may not be urgent in the heat of the moment, but they be the very foundation upon which our success be built. Choose yer destination, chart yer course, weigh anchor and take action that can change yer future!

And just as on the ship, so too in life. It be easy to get swept up in the urgent matters—respondin' to every demand, puttin' out fires left and right. But if ye ain't careful, ye'll find yerself adrift, aimless upon the sea of life.

Clue: The Dutch East India Company Massacre, called The Amboyna Massacre, occurred on the Indonesian island of Ambon. Executives of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) executed ten Englishmen, ten Japanese, and one Portuguese trader, accusing them of plotting against the Dutch. This event led to strained relations between the Dutch and English, particularly in their competition over the lucrative spice trade. This happened after the skeleton key year in the February 2025 hunt.

So, me hearties, heed me words well. Take stock of the urgent matters, but never lose sight of the important ones. For 'tis they what give purpose to our journey, what lead us ever onward toward our true treasure—whether it be gold doubloons or the fulfillment of our deepest desires.

Make a list of things that be vital to yer future, and a list of things that just have to be done. Then prioritize the list, and start doin' the things with the highest priority. Create habits of doin' things that are important during prime time. That be the time between when most people get home from work and when they go to bed. Let’s say that be from six in the eve until ten in the eve. Do all the ‘necessary’ things before or after prime time. Reserve prime time for doin' things that are important to yer future. Now, quit fiddlin' with the riggin' and straightening the shelves, and start doin' things that'll change yer life!

Swab the decks another time! Hoist the sails, mateys!
