What Would Blackbeard Say
about Customers Wants?
Arr, me hearty! Blackbeard knows a thing or two about why folks choose to do business with a scallywag like meself, or why they will do business with ye.
So listen up! The first thing ye need to grasp, is that no matter what business ye be involved in, ye be in the people business. Some landlubbers might think they be in the insurance trade, or the real estate game, or counting coins, or crafting contraptions, making wares, peddlin' goods, spreading the word, or dabblin' in legal matters, be it buying or selling wholesale or retail. But truth be told, we all be in the people business. We just sail different ships to reach our treasure troves.
Without people, there'd be no need for our businesses to be slingin' wares and services. Ye can call 'em customers, clients, shipmates, mates, or whatever ye fancy, but people be the lifeblood of any successful venture. Gettin' better at makin' connections ain't somethin' ye can overlook if ye be aimin' for success on the high seas. Ye gotta build those relationships like ye build a sturdy mast, or ye'll be sinkin' faster than a ship with a leaky hull!
Ye see, in the treacherous waters of the pirate realm, trust be a rare commodity. So why would they choose to do business with ol' Blackbeard, ye ask? Let me lay it out fer ye.
First of all, because they like ye. Aye, there be somethin' to be said for charm and charisma on the high seas. Many a merchant be willing to strike a deal with Blackbeard simply because they find me company tolerable, or maybe even enjoyable. When ye can share a laugh over a tankard o' grog, it makes the cutthroat business of piracy a bit more bearable.
For example: Picture a merchant who's heard tales of Blackbeard's exploits, but when they meet me face-to-face, they find me to be a jovial sort, quick with a smile and a witty remark. They might be inclined to do business with me purely because they enjoy me company.
Secondly, because they're familiar, or comfortable with ye. Trust be a valuable currency, me matey. And trust often comes from familiarity. If a merchant has dealt with Blackbeard before and found the transactions to be fair and square, they might feel more comfortable doing business with me again. Each time, they've received their fair share of plunder without any deceit or trickery. I might acquire me goods from the shady side, but when sellin' to businesses, me be a straight shooter.
Such a merchant might choose to continue dealing with Blackbeard because they know what to expect and are familiar with the arrangement.
Now, as far as bein' comfortable, this be similar to the last point, but with a twist. Sometimes, it ain't just about familiarity, but about feeling safe in me presence. A savvy merchant might reckon that, while Blackbeard be a fearsome pirate, it does me no good to plunder goods and not be able to sell 'em, savvy? Dealing with me be safer than crossing paths with some other, more unpredictable buccaneer.
An example of this, imagine a merchant ship sailing through dangerous waters infested with rival pirates and sea monsters. They might feel safer striking a deal with Blackbeard, knowing that I have a reputation of offering protection to those who do business with me. For pay, I be bringin' his goods to port safely.
Thirdly, because they need what ye be bringin' to port. Every merchant needs goods on the shelves to sell, and be continually lookin' to add to the offerings.
Arrr! I can feel it in me bones, yer mumblin' and thinkin' me has 'em backwards! Ye think that any old scurvy customer will buy yer products first of all because they need what ye be slingin'. Go ahead and sail into port with that attitude me friend, and see how long it be, before yer chased out to sea under full sail, with all yer cargo still aboard! Make 'em like ye, get 'em comfortable with ye, and then they be buyin', sometimes even if they don't need what ye be cartin'.
So there ye have it, me hearty. Whether it be for me charming personality, me trustworthy reputation, or simply the feeling of safety me presence provides, (and the fact that I may have merchandise that be in short supply, due to their regular supply lines bein' disrupted, Arrr!) there be plenty of reasons why folks choose to do business with Blackbeard the pirate, and why they will do business with ye!
